Simple Rocket Activity
Kids love rockets, and here is an easy craft activity that almost any age child can do. These are great for "just fun" times, or as a junior craft when older children are busy with real rockets. Just print, color, and follow the directions!
For more fun, experiment with the variables. Try using different weights of paper, or different size bodies. Move the fins into different positions and see how it flies, or make your own fins that are cut at different angles.
Items needed:
Rocket printable
Crayons and/or markers
Tape
Drinking straw with flexible top
1. Print out one rocket body and two sets of fins per child.
2. Have the children color as desired. (No glued on decorations coloring only.)
3. Cut out all three pieces.
4. Roll the body of the rocket into a tight roll that will fit over the straw without being too much bigger. The easiest way is to use a round-bodied colored pencil as a form to roll around. Use the lines on the rocket body to make sure it stays lined up. Tape the long edge of the rocket body, then remove the pencil. (If you rolled tightly enough, you may need to push the pencil out with another pencil or your straw.)
5. Pinch the top of the rocket body closed and tape the very top, sealing it off.
6. Tape the fins to the bottom of the rocket body, one on each side, then flare out the fins in an "X" shape.
. Insert your straw and BLOW!
