How To Make a Step-Fold Booklet
Step-fold booklets are a great way to get a lot of information in a small space, whether in lap book folders or perhaps on a display board. They are extremely simple to make.
First, decide how many layers you need in your final booklet. I used three sheets of paper in the example, so that gives me 6 pages including the cover.
For my example, I used three different colors, and full sheets of paper, just to make it easy to photograph. You will need to decide what size you need based on where you are putting your booklet, and how much space you want to take up with the booklet. The smaller booklet I have pictured is made from three sheets of 3" x 8 1/2" paper, which gave me a final dimension of 3" x 6 1/4".
Hold your sheets of paper and "step" them apart at the bottom. Just eyeball how far apart you want each section.
Remember, of course, that the further apart each sheet is from the next, the smaller the top page will end up being.
Now, fold forward, again eyeballing where the pages should lie. As you get them lined up where you want them, complete the fold and crease well. If your booklet is small enough, you can staple along the fold to hold the booklet together. If it is too large for a stapler, simply take clear tape and place it front to back just under the fold. (Your pages following the crease won't raise all the way, but that should be okay.)
Now, simply fill in the pages as you wish. You can use just the tops of each page, or fill in every page back and front. Glue the back in place wherever you are placing your booklet. You're done!
